In the beginning, I had little money or computer experience, and laptops where expensive, but I wanted one.
I begged for a job in a computer repair shop.
They handed me an Apple PowerBook, replacement motherboard, and said if I can make it work I'm hired.
A million screws later, it worked, so I was hired.
I learned the world of laptops repair for Toshiba, HP, IBM, Apple, Dell, and others.
I learned to disassemble without breaking stuff.
I learned to reassemble without too little or too many screws.
I learned to stash a disassebled laptop on a shelf for weeks and pickup where I left off when new parts arrived.
I also figured out which manufacturers had quality products and services.
I also found a great deal for 2 laptops abandoned by owners who didn't want to pay the bill.
The IBM Thinkpads won my favor the most.
My purchasing formula these days:
- Choose from last years offerings (as the price drops a lot).
- max out the memory
- get a ssd
- get a warranty if possible,
