Prescribed method of preparing Netscape for Ohlone mail.ohlone.cc.ca.us: 1.Setup the profile with Ohlone user name 2.Setup the Address book 3.Set mail client. 4.Setup colander. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1.Setup the profile with Ohlone user name In a Windows system, Start/Programs/Netscape Communicator/Utilities/User Profile Manager In a Mac system, Hard Drive/Netscape Communicator folder/ User Profile Manager. Click New, then click Next, Ttype in your full name on the top line, and your Ohlone email address on the second line. Click next. Your profile name should be the same as your Ohlone user name. On a Windows, there is a second line showing the path to the mail file on your hard drive. On a Mac, this section has it's own window. The defaults are ok. Click next. At "Outgoing SMTP server" type "mail.ohlone.cc.ca.us" Click next. At "Mail server user name:" type your user account name. At "Incoming Mail Server" type "mail.ohlone.cc.ca.us" At "Mail Server Type" leave the radio button on POP3 for Windows, POP for Mac. Click Finnish. Open communicator, and select your profile from the list. 2.Setup Address book Be sure you are connected to the internet (test by trying to brows the web). Start Netscape, and select menue Communicator/Address book From the Address book window, select File/New Directory "Description:" type "Ohlone College" "LDAP Server:" type "directory.ohlone.cc.ca.us" "Server Root:" type "O=Ohlone College, C=US" The other options can be left on the default choices. Click OK. 3. Set Mail Client Start Netscape and select menue Edit/Preferences In Windows, select the plus next to the "Mail & Newsgroups" In Mac, select the arrow next to the "Mail & Newsgroups' Select "Identity" "Your name:" will be your full name. "Email address:" will be your Ohlone email address "Reply-to address..." should be left blank "Organization:" will be Ohlone College department of ... "Signature File:" section is optional. This will be the path to a file on your machine. Browse or Choose the file on our local hard drive. On the Mac you will need to click the box the to activate it. Note: The "Signature File" should be a text only file. Do not create it in MS Word. Used Notepad on the PC or Simple Text on the Mac. Save the file with a name like "SigFile.txt". A good place the keep the file is in you (My) Documents folder. Select "Mail Server" below Identity. "Incoming Mail Servers" should list only mail.ohlone.cc.ca.us If the box is empty select "Add" If the serve is listed, highlight it, and select "Edit" A box will pop up with a tab labeled general and POP On the "General" tab, "Server Name" should be mail.ohlone.cc.ca.us "Server Type" should be POP "user name" should by your regular user name. The other options on this tab are a mater of preference. On the POP tab, check 'leave messages on server' check 'When deleting a message locally, remove it from the serer.' Click OK. Select "Addressing" which is below Newsgroups and Severs Under "Pinpoint Addressing" Select "Address books" and "Directory server" Below "Directory servers", select Ohlone Collage from the drop box. Click OK. Click OK to close the Preferences box. 4.Setup Calendar (nscal) Start Netscape and select Communicator/Calendar A pop-up box will appear titled "Netscape Calendar Sign-in". In "User Name" type in your first name and last name In "password", type your email password. In "Server Name" delete everything in the box, and type "calendar.ohlone.cc.ca.us" Select OK. Your college calendar agenda will be down loaded and displayed on your home computer. THE END
