This is how to recovera: Your palm will not sync if there is no user name or user ID on the palm. ######################################################################## # Load username and ID (ID should own the backup files in $HOME/.jpilot ######################################################################## 1. ls -laF /dev/pilot /dev/pilot -> /dev/ttyS0 (COM1 is /dev/ttyS0) (COM2 is /dev/ttyS1) 2. cat /etc/passwd |grep to get your UID 3. /usr/bin/install-user /dev/ttyS0 ######################################################################## # Load the data into the palm ######################################################################## 1. attach your computer to the palm. 2. make a new folder under $HOME/.jpilot called Recover 3. cd $HOME/.jpilot 4. ls -laF |grep *pdb # to list all saved data files from previous syncs. 5. cp *pdb Recover/ # to restore all data files. 6. ls -laF |grep *prc # to list all saved programs from previous syncs. 7. cp program1.prc program2.prc Recover/ # to reinstall programs 8. /usr/bin/pilot-xfer -r $HOME/.jpilot/Restore it will say "Waiting for connection on /dev/...." 9. Turn on palm pilot, select hot sync, and press local-sync. You'll hear the happy noise of the restore in progress. You wil see the messages "Restoring ...."
